Sadie Balkind Scholarship

The Sadie Balkind was established in memory of the late Sadie Balkind (d. 1985). Sadie Balkind was a member of the then-Federation of University Women, who made a generous bequest to the Canterbury Branch.

The scholarship supports a successful student to undertake fulltime postgraduate study below PhD level at either the University of Canterbury or Lincoln University. It is valid for 12 months and the Scholarship is for $12,500. It is open to female New Zealand citizens who have demonstrated high academic achievement.

Each Sadie Balkind Scholar participates in selected activities of Graduate Women Canterbury during the term of the scholarship. The annual closing date for applications is 15 December.

GWC Trust Inc. Master’s Scholarship

Each year GWC offers two $5000 scholarships to encourage postgraduate study and research at Lincoln University.

This scholarship is available to female New Zealand citizens who are enrolled full-time in a Master’s degree at Lincoln University.

The criterion for the scholarship is academic excellence. The annual closing date for applications is 1 October.

Applications should be sent to the Scholarships Office of Lincoln University or emailed to scholarships@lincoln.ac.nz.


GWC Trust Inc. Scholarship

Each year GWC offers one $1500 scholarship to contribute to tuition fees at Lincoln University.

This is open to full-time female students eligible to register for a Bachelor’s degree at Lincoln University, who have successfully completed their first year of study.

This scholarship is awarded based on academic excellence and is tenable for one year. The annual closing date for applications is 31 March.

Applications should be sent to the Scholarships Office of Lincoln University or emailed to scholarships@lincoln.ac.nz.


GWC Trust Board Scholarship

An endowment from GWC funds, annually, two $4500 scholarships to contribute to the tuition fees in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or an Honours or Master’s degree.

These are open to female students who are New Zealand citizens enrolled at the University of Canterbury in their final year of a Bachelors, Honours or Master’s degree.

Masters GWC Trust Board Scholarship

An endowment from GWC funds an annual scholarship at the University of Canterbury for female master’s students who are New Zealand citizens studying full-time towards a research master’s degree.

A condition of the award is that recipients permit publication and announcement of their acceptance of the award by GWC.


Doctoral GWC Trust Board Inc Scholarship

An endowment from GWC funds a three-year scholarship at the University of Canterbury for female students who are New Zealand citizens enrolled full-time in the PhD programme in the College of Arts or the College of Education, Health & Human Development at the University of Canterbury.

GWC Scholarship in Bachelor of Medical Imaging

Each year GWC awards two scholarships, worth $2000 each, to female New Zealand citizens in the second and third years of study for a Bachelor of Medical Imaging at Ara Institute of Canterbury.
